Summary of the issue you are facing:
Summary of the Issue
I have configured the SMTP server in Nextcloud, and the test email functionality works correctly.
However, when sharing a file with another user, the email notification to inform the recipient does not work properly in Nextcloud 30.x.x.
Behavior observed:
On Nextcloud 29.x.x, the email notification for file sharing works as expected.
On Nextcloud 30.x.x:
You must first share the file and save the sharing information.
Then, you need to manually update the “Note to recipient” column for the email to be sent successfully.
Steps to Replicate the Issue
Perform a Fresh Installation:
Install Nextcloud 30.x.x on your server (e.g., using the official web installer or manual method).
Complete the initial setup (database, admin account, etc.).
Configure the SMTP Server:
Go to Settings → Basic Settings → Email Server.
Configure the SMTP server (e.g., SMTP host, port, encryption, username, password).
Test the SMTP configuration to verify it works (use the “Send email” button for testing).
Create Two Users:
Create two users in Nextcloud: one as the file sharer and the other as the recipient.
Share a File:
Log in as the sharer user.
Upload a file to Nextcloud.
Share the file with the recipient user via the “Share” option.
Check the option to send an email notification to the recipient.
Observe the Behavior:
Note whether the email notification is sent immediately after sharing the file.
If it doesn’t work, manually update the “Note to recipient” field and save it.
Check if the email is sent after this step.

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response
- Use the
preformatted text
formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output. - If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
- If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
- Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.
