NextCloudAIO updater fails if not run regularly. Is there a way to recover?

So I ran the updater through AIO, no warnings that this was a bad idea, but now all I get is errr messages about PHP 8.3 being wrong. I tried the recovery method listed here: all-in-one/manual-upgrade.md at main · nextcloud/all-in-one · GitHub and did get it to work for about 3 minutes, but when I restarted the containers, everything failed again.

I was hoping that AIO would simplify the process of keeping NextCloud up to date. The Host server gets updated every 2 weeks and is running Lubuntu.

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x): AIO 10.0.0 The actual nextcloud version ??? I can’t get it, that’s why I’m here

  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    Docker

  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    latest docker version

  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    don’t know

  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
8.3 => this appears to be the problem

  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    Yes

  • When did this problem seem to first start?
Tried to use the AIO updater. Apparently this doesn’t work unless you run it daily

  • Installation method (e.g. AIO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    AIO

  • Are you using Cloudflare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    No

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Ran the AIO updater, broke everything. Nextcloud container doesn’t start gives error about PHP8.3 being the wrong version.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. install docker version of NextCloud
  2. Don’t update for a few months
  3. Try to update
  4. profit?
