Nextcloud Update to 30.0.7 fails because the update zip file is unavailable - Update: works now

Just FYI - the news article from 8 hours ago advertises an update that isn’t actually available (or the download is only VERY slow, and likely exceeding your timeout anyway). Fixing the problem on your server requires accessing the file structure, so don’t do it if you don’t have server admin access!

Seems like their mirror is having performance issue, no matter what version you try to download.

I also only get around 130kbit/s.

BTW, ISP is Ini7. Applies to both, IPv4 and IPv6.
Ping is decent.

I mangaed to get it updated via the CLI updater, but it took about an hour or so.

People relying on the webupdater may indeed want better wait until the performance issues are resolved, as the webupdater is likely to timeout long before the download is complete.

Same here.

How do other users solve the problem

Just delete the updater-xxxxxxxxx folder and try again later if the update stucks at “downloading”.

UPDATE: Seems to be ironed out now. Update worked without issues for both of the instances I manage.

(for one of them I do not have server access, so I’m very glad I tested first.)

Updates seem to get more unreliable each time… thinking of last time, when they retracted the update without proper notifications.

My personal takeaway from these incidents is: Never trust a Nextcloud update. Always test it first on a low-risk platform.

This is in addition to the mantra ‘Always wait for the .0.1 version of any release’.

Agreed. Albeit not everyone has a secondary instance or test instance, I mean, I do, but not everyone does.

Yes, always wait for the .0.1 install, and as addition, wait a few days before updating, as to avoid times outs. Wait for the flood of admins downloading the new version pass firsts.

As I have seen times outs occurring more often starting a couple of versions ago. Basically, trying to do an update 2-3 days after a release will usually mean at least a couple of time outs for me.

And always delete unsupported Apps before starting the update!
Or don’t update.
