Nextcloud on synology ds620slim; problems with installation!

Hello, to all here !
sorry about my English hoping, its understandable some way. I am fan of owncloud an nextcloud using the computers at work, so since three weeks I tried to install Nextcloud on my Synology DS at home:
Hardware:
SYNOLOGY DS620slim
Software:
DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4
Nextcloud
versions from 12.0.4 to 17.0.1
php 5.6.40-0059,
7.0.33-0028
7.2.20-0004
7.3.7-0002
phpMyAdmin 4.9.0.1-0180
WebStation 2.1.8-0148
Apache 2.4.39-0014
MariaBD 10.3.11-0054

I nearly tried all combinations of used software, I totally reset my DS for more then 10 times, to avoid former rests , I read in detail nearly 10 different descriptions of „installing Nextcloud to a Synology DS“ finding very detailed and different fakts from 2017 until now, from different people, but for me, there is always somtimes the point of „no success“!

The result until this morning was always the same: starting the Nextcloud-Server from a new/fresh installation for the first time, the normal configuration-screen apperas asking for: „Admin name and password setting, Choosing MySql with root, passwd, database path and localhost vv. 127.0.0.1:3307". Even the normal startpage, I think.

Then always an error was shown and something (?) goes really wrong.

I tried nearly everything!

  • i changed the position of the nextcloud-files to the Webservers root instead of the subdirectory „nextcloud“

  • I tried to set different types of the „chown -R… and chmod-R“ commands (0770 vv. 777 …)

  • … tried to edit the config-files before starting web with real user- and password-settings

  • Going very deep into the php-configuration inside (512M Ram, port 3307,…)

But always is told to me, the database-user can’t be created and and there is no more alternative :-(.

I read about adapting the config/config.php before installation to reflect the parameters, I also read about using many other tricks but without success. Very depressing !

  • I also tried to use the method of using the „setup-nextcloud.php“-script after reseting the web-server. But the same :frowning:

This morning I found another helpful information at YouTube from two specialists:

This demonstration was a little bit older and from End of 2017 BUT (!) using strictly their advising and versions …

… and using the old php 5.6 package AND (!) Nextcloud 12.0.0.4

FOR THE FRIST TIME (!) a regular start of Nextcloud and a runnning database with an admin-account was seen by me very enthusiastic!!!

So it seems, the hardware is o.k. and using some tricks it should be possible, to use an Synology ds620slim with Nextcloud.

But there are some additional problems in using the clientsofetware, so I decided to update all the components but again the result was a totally damaged nextcloud, so the only help was to erase all and to start from bottom up again.

Could someone give me some tips and tricks or a really actual description, what to do?

Many thanks
Greetings from Aachen, a German town near the Belgium boarder.
Arnd
p.s. i also give “docking” a chance but with bad results, too :frowning:

Not that this answers your question, but still: Nextcloud on QNAP works just fine…

That isn’t really helpful for the user.

BTW. Qnap has bad php support, mostly outdated, so I would not recommend to use Nextcloud on Qnap in public

I run it as a VM under Ubuntu 18.04 with php 7.2, serving about 50 people (QNAP 673).
Haven’t noticed any difference with same setup on vCenter 6.7.

QNAP does not like every M.2 SSD brand (VMs run on), but that’s another story…

Hello,
please, did someone have for me a very actual (!) Installationguide for Nextcloud 17.0.2 on an Synology DS620slim?!
Thanks in advance
Arnd

Hello, to al!

finally success !!!

having a FritzBox beween my DS-Station and Internet. as i have done many times before, i forwarded the https-access by seting a portredirection from https/443 to an internal port like 94439, hoping, the "mydomain.dom:94439/nextcloud works the same way as with a normal https-defautport. But that is not so! Nextclouds PHP-Installationprocedures seems to have problems, if the Name of the server/the domain ends with additional portnumbers. Using the defaultport 443 and all went well! Even using the simple setup-nextcloud.php now works for me !!!
Hope, it helps and greetings to all
greetings
A.
