Nextcloud no longer responds although docker container is reachable

Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version: 30.0.6
  • Operating system and version: Debian Bookworm
  • Web server and version: 2.4.62
  • Reverse proxy and version: unknown
  • PHP version: 8.2.27
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error?: No
  • When did this problem seem to first start?: Some months ago
  • Installation method: Docker image
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar?: No

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Scrolling back and forth through file folders with lots of images. All of a sudden, there is no more response from the webserver.

Please kindly advise or provide pointers how to narrow down the cause. Thank you!

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Navigate to Folders / All files
  2. Locate a folder: In my case, it contains ca. 700 images and 2 videos
  3. Scrolling back and forth can lead to the webserver freeze – THIS IS THE PROBLEM
  4. The docker container is still reachable, e.g. docker exec works.
  5. Stopping the container does not work (through portainer web UI)
  6. After restarting the docker service on the host, Nextcloud container can be started.

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

Which image, precisely?

Please check the container app container logs during these events.

I used the latest image from https://hub.docker.com/_/nextcloud .
I am trying to reproduce the issue, so far w/o success. But in case it happens again I will pay attention to the container’s log, perhaps there is something that I can use.
Thank you for your reply!
