NextCloud client reports folders are empty but they're not

I helped a friend set up a private NextCloud server (I have been running one myself for years).

After setting it up we dragged a 68Gb folder from his DropBox location into the NextCloud location on his Mac so it would start syncing. However, as you can see from the image, in the NextCloud client sync settings, it is showing that there are no files in various folders. But the Apple Finder clearly shows multiple files in each of those folders.

I’ve tried to “force sync” but that had no effect.

Really? Nobody has ever seen this issue or knows what might be going on?
