Nextcloud ability to share libraries/folders for multiple users

Hey,

we are evaluating NC for our needs and I was thinking about one requirement.

As with OneDrive, you can create so called libraries that are/could be visible by multiple users and have a scope of a “company” so to say. Is it possible to make something similar with NC? I do understand that perhaps one user can make and share these folders, but I was thinking, how to approach this from more “centralized” way.

Thanks

The Group folders app: Group folders - Apps - App Store - Nextcloud & GitHub - nextcloud/groupfolders: 📁👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 Admin-configured folders shared by everyone in a group. https://github.com/nextcloud-releases/groupfolders

If you speak German, I can recommend the following blog post. It gives a good insight into what is possible with which app.

Thanks for your replies.

After reviewing all those apps, I have weird feelings that this quite common feature is not implemented that well in nextcloud. Groupfolder has some significant issues at least that is stated on their github. I really hardly see that companies can live without this kind of feature, so it must be away to do that in a reasonable way or I miss something here.

Thanks for posting this link here. I’ve also added an english version of the graphic now, which can be found in the footer of the linked page.

If someone is interested, I ended up creating a special nextcloud user that will own key folders and they will be shared for specific groups of users. Thus, those folders will be owned by someone. Those folders were simply external mounts/dirs.

Actually, Group folders (video) are intended for precisely this purpose. Where did you have problems with this? Because of your “simply external mounts/dirs”?

Everything is OK, I have reviewed app’s repository and comments from people with their issues using this app, including cases where there is a risk of data leaked etc.

I simply do not wish to take this risk and went with dedicated user and ownership with external storage.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I would have thought that with Group folders you can share the folders with groups, which in turn do not have the right to share the folders or files they contain.

However, it may be that using a dedicated user is actually more secure. Someone would have to take a closer look.
