(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • NextCloud APP 2.0.34 (2.0.33 didnt had this issue)
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • Truenas 25.04.2.4 - Community Edition
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • Version from Truenas
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • v2.12.6 - but its not involved in the issue (local access)
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • i cant access php on TrueNas
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • yes
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • after todays update to 2.0.34
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • APP Upgrade in Truenas
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • No

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Since todays upgrade of nextcloud app 2.0.34 i cant access my nextcloud any more !

it only shows this message.
Bitte den Kommandozeilen-Updater verwenden, die Browser-Aktualisierung ist in der config.php deaktiviert.

When trying to launch any of this commands …
sudo -u www-data php occ maintenance:mode --on
sudo -u www-data php occ update
sudo -u www-data php occ maintenance:mode --off

truenas zsh shell doesnt find php and also switching to bash and trying to get php doesnt work.

installing php via apt is not possibel as this is blocked by truenas.

So how can i get nextcloud APP working again as all my data is not no longer synced and my apps and passwords not accessible.

This is realy not funny to not being able to rely on normal APP Upgrades which are offered by Truenas Web GUI !

Im Running Truenas Community Edition

Hello, I guess this is something you need to address with the Truenas community, no updates are provided by Nextcloud for Truenas directly.

I can imagine that Nextcloud is running in some sort of container on Truenas?! So you’d need to execute those command inside of the container. But again, the Truenas community might know better in that case.

No its a problem of Nextcloud ! Truenas has nothing to do with this issue.

I could solve it for now BUT !!! Nextcloud declared “password” as an incompatible APP with Nextcloud V32.0 !!!

For all having the same issue this was the solution:

  1. you need to ssh into truenas

  2. you need to cd to your nexcloud-config folder /mnt/[pool]/[dataset]/nextcloud/AppData/config
there you find a file “upgrade-disable-web.config.php”

  3. move it to an new folder _old just to have it

  4. in the config.php change “‘upgrade.disable-web’ => true to false

  5. restart nextcloud app

  6. go to the webui and make the update manualy - you should now see “App-Aktualisierung notwendig” and a button to start it.
If you can backup your stuff before do so to be sure.

  7. When you are lucky then it removes now “passwords” and nextcloud is working again.

To get the Password APP back again (so you nextcloud decided to block users from all their passwords - not realy professional)

  8. log into your nexcloud as admin.

  9. go to APPs - passwords

  10. allow “untested ..”

  11. enable passwords again

So Nextcloud should rethink such stuff before blocking any user from their passwords or should not provide such APPs in their store and warn the users upfront !!!
For me this is now a total untrustable system which removes important informations user are relying on ! will rethink using your apps any more as they are untrustable and switched off on any purpose !
For a european cloud sw provider this is not wise to make such moves.
