Nextcloud 16.0.1 Web UI missing icons

The search and contacts icons missing in upper right corner of web ui. Using 16.0.1. Tested on Firefox and Edge. Same deal. The functionality is still there. I can click on the search and contacts because I know they are there and it works. The cursor also changes shape when hovered over the icons.

My system is self hosted on rasp p 3B+ stretch 9.5, nginx, php 7.3, mariob Db

as you dont grant us more info about any involved piece of software, your server and setup we can only guess…

so my first (and last) idea would be - you have an active ad-blocker and/or skript-stopper running on your browesers.
