NC30 rename accented folders

Hi. I don’t know if this issue with Nextcloud 30 has already been flagged but I can’t chnage the name of files/folders with accented names. Apparently there was no problem creating the names since I copied a set of folders but I can’t chnage them and therefore I can’t move them.

Sorry seems OK with files but NOT folders!

hello @Pete_Kirkham I split your questin into separate topic as it doesnt’s seem to be frequent issue and it misses relevant information about your system.

I made a test and it works fine in my Docker based nc30

I created folder without accents in a name… renamed it to have accents and later changed the named to another one with accents - everything fine.

please provide additional details about your issue.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I upgraded from 29 so perhaps that’s the issue.

No problem with moving and renaming files with accented names.

The problem is only with folders.

I’m using Nextcloud on ubuntu. What other details do you need?

Best regards,

Pete

Can you show an example screenshot of what you try to rename and the error message?

The error message is Échec de l’action “Déplacer ou copier”

And when I change my settings to english I get: “Move or copy” action failed✖

as you can see in my previous this works in general. and my test instance was upgraded from 29 (I think it started at 27). please provide data and logs as per support template. I think browser log could be useful as well (F12)

Hi. I’ve found the problem and it isn’t a renaming issue. The folder concerned contains a file I can modify but not delete so the renaming doesn’t work.

I have successfully copied (but not moved) the folder to another place which works but moving doesn’t because the underlying file can’t be deleted.

Now I just have to work out how, as administrator of this system, I can gain the right to delete this file.
Sorry for bothering you.
Best regards,

Pete

What kind of file is this that cannot be deleted?

Excel spreadsheet

Envoyé de mon mobile

Well, you can normally always delete an Excel file, unless there is a special character in the file name or maybe a dot at the end or a ‘forbidden’ file name or the permissions are no longer correct or no idea?

The only question is what exactly it was and how it got into the Nextcloud folder?

I’m sure its a question of access rights but I copied it from another instance. I’m the administrator of this one but I wasn’t on the one it came from.

Can you tell me how I can see the rights on the file. If necessary and if its pratical I can look at the database.

Best regards,

Pete

Just execute

    ls -al

in the current folder of the web server.

The file owner must correspond to that of the web server and must have write authorisation. Otherwise Nextcloud cannot delete the file.
