Good Day all 
I just got my next cloud up and running for the first time using the following guides to get it installed:
Installing Nextcloud on Ubuntu with Redis, APCu, SSL & Apache | Jason Bayton
and the admin manual
After I performed the following step:
6.2. Enable caching
I noticed that my Gear and Magnifying glass are missing from the interface. Maybe is wasn’t that step, but I sure something in that guide caused the issue
I also joined my server to my Windows Server 2012 R2 Domain using this guide:
https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/sssd-ad.html
and could not get sssd.service to start… though the computer is showing and authenticating agains AD ???
Also, I was able to get it to integrate with LDAP using the LDAP Integration app.
Other than the UUIDs for usernames (working on that) everything seems to be working as expected.
The issue is this:
Only because I had an ownCloud server did I know that they were there… work fine when you click on them, but just wondering why they are not showing…
NextCloud version: “Nextcloud 12.0.4”
Linux: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Apache2
MariaDB/SQL
Let me know if more information is needed, happy to get this looking right.
