Hello,
I am currently evaluating the use of Nextcloud (especially for file sharing/management and Nextcloud Talk). My main concern is how and whether a migration from my Windows file server with a full-blown folder structure is normally carried out when using Nextcloud. You are also looking for IT support for the introduction/migration. Is it possible to keep the Windows File Server running and access files through Nextcloud?
Thx
J
There is/was the feature to use an external storage as primary storage with SMB. So you keep the structure of your Windows File Server and the external storage from Nextcloud hooks up directly to that.
Unfortunately, there is little documentation of that.

The problem is the use as primary storage. There was a topic on the forum, where people manage to set it up, but it was a bit hacky. Most recent posts use S3 storage as primary storage, this is also documented.
Large Windows File server are more common in enterprise environments, so there is less information and feedback here in the forum. Some of the companies probably have an enterprise subscription to get the seamless integration into their company environment.
