Manual installation of Talk ("SpreedMe") on server behind a proxy

I was unable to find a definitive guide as to how to install a .tar.gz download of the Talk / SpreedMe files on a server that has no direct Internet access (the server and NextCloud itself is accessible from the outside World through a reverse SSL proxy).

Firewall and other ports necessary for voice communication will be something to deal with as the next step.
