Hello @all, hope this is the right place for this.
During my setup I was facing the dreaded and com common “Cannot connect to server” with GMail accounts that many reported and unfortunately it is poor or incomplete app development IPv6 supporte is either broken or non-exstent; but well I’m not to trash on the devs “it’s free anyways”.
After I did everything by the book, 2FA (this will disallow less secure apps, beware), App Password (2FA is a must). I found that the only thing that worked for me after reading on the many threads on this subject, was to temporarily remove any IPv6 address the server has,
ip addr del 2001:db8:5400:c41::11 dev ens18
complete the setup wizard through the WbUI, it will finally connect but the spinning thing won’t stop spinning and you will still think it’s broken, just click on Inbox or any IMAP folder and you’ll see your emails.
You can safely the add your IPv6 in again and it will work normally.
DISCLAIMER: This works for me, so please beware that your mileage may vary.
I struggled big time trying to get this going so I post here for future reference (note to self) and anyone with this issue.
