MacOS 11.7.: Desktop Client 3.13.4 keeps pestering to upgrade to 4.x which needs MacOS ≥ 12

Hi *,
I’m running Nextcloud Desktop Client 3.13.4 on MacOS 11.7.10.

For a few months now, the client reminds me to upgrade to version 4. When I do so and d/l v4 via sparkle, the installer tells me that it cannot install. Investigating the downloaded software (in ~/Library/Caches/com.nextcloud.desktopclient/org.sparkle-project.Sparkle/PersistentDownloads/) MacOS tells me it needed at least MacOS 12 and won’t run it.

So far, so good. I then unticked the auto-check box in the config dialogue (“Automatisch auf Aktualisierungen prüfen” in German) but still get upgrade notifications every now and then.

So … why does Desktop Client 3.13.4 still nag me to upgrade to some (for me) unfunctional version and even tries to install that? And how do I stop that?

You might need to come up with a plan to get away from that. MacOS 11 has been end of life since 2023

Probably because this is an issue that hasn’t been fixed yet in the equally ancient version of the client you’re using. I found that it might have been fixed in 3.17.1, but you’re still on 3.13.4… Prevent macOS client update via Configuration Profile · Issue #6142 · nextcloud/desktop · GitHub

Unfortunately, I don’t know. But if the box is checked, and it stll notfies you about updates, it could be the bug mentioned above. However, since your version of the client is just as unsupported as your MacOS version, I hardly believe that anyone would backport any bug fixes to it.
