Issues with installing smbclient for External Storage Support

I have Nextcloud installed on a fresh Ubuntu VM and am trying to configure External Storage Support with SMB.

“smbclient” is not installed. Mounting of “SMB / CIFS”, “SMB / CIFS using OC login” is not possible. Please ask your system administrator to install it.

This message is on the External Storage Support page. I ran sudo apt-get install smbclient and it completed successfully. I rebooted and ran the command again and confirmed that smbclient installed. I then logged back in to the Nextcloud GUI and was greeted with the same message above.

What am I missing? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You need php-smbclient either.

Which linux and version do you use?

dpkg -l |grep smb

Thanks for the reply. I ended up going with the Nextcloud VM by T&M Hansson IT and didn’t run into this issue with this method.
