When I share a main folder with another user or group, that user/group automatically gains access to all subfolders and their contents inside that folder.
Here is a concrete example:
I have a folder called Common.
Inside it, there are three subfolders: Accounting, Logistics, and Office.
I want to share only the Accounting subfolder with a group called Accounting.
However, if I share the Common folder with the Accounting group, even though I have set permissions to allow them to see only the Accounting subfolder, the users in that group can still see the other subfolders (Logistics and Office) and their contents.
From what I can tell, the permissions are inherited from the parent folder and there is no way to restrict access only to a specific subfolder inside the shared folder.
Could you please clarify:
Is it possible in Nextcloud Community Edition to share a parent folder but limit access to only certain subfolders?
Is there any configuration, app that would allow such fine-grained permission control?
Any guidance or best practice would be greatly appreciated.
However, if I share the Common folder with the Accounting group, even though I have set permissions to allow them to see only the Accounting subfolder, the users in that group can still see the other subfolders (Logistics and Office) and their contents.
Can you elaborate? Are you referring to normal sharing permissions or are you trying to use the Team Folders app?
