Issue/Bug in iOS Mobile App

Hi,

I’m experiencing a reproducible issue with the image viewer in the current Nextcloud iOS app.

Environment:

  • Nextcloud iOS app: 34.1.4.1

  • iOS/iPadOS: 26.6.2

  • Nextcloud Server: 33.0.8

  • Tested on both an iPhone and an iPad

  • Images have been downloaded using “Make available offline”

Problem

When I open an offline-available high-resolution image, the first image is displayed correctly in full resolution, including when zooming in.

The problem starts when I swipe to the next image.

The second (and subsequent) image is displayed at noticeably reduced resolution when zooming in, as if the viewer is using only a preview/thumbnail instead of the locally available original file.

There is a strange workaround:

  1. Open an offline-available image → full resolution is displayed correctly.

  2. Swipe to the next image.

  3. Zoom in → only low/preview resolution is displayed.

  4. Tap the “i” (info) button.

  5. Return to the image.

  6. Zoom in again → the image is now displayed in full resolution.

  7. Swipe to another image and then back.

  8. Zoom in → the image is back to low/preview resolution again.

This is consistently reproducible on both my iPhone and iPad.

Expected behavior

All images that are already available offline should be displayed using their locally stored full-resolution files, including images reached by swiping through the image viewer.

Additional observation

Since opening the “i” information view immediately causes the affected image to be displayed in full resolution, the original image seems to be correctly downloaded and locally accessible.

The issue therefore appears to be related to the image viewer when loading the next/previous image by swiping, rather than to the offline download itself.

I believe this behavior started after one of the more recent updates of the Nextcloud iOS app, but unfortunately I cannot identify the exact version that introduced it.

Can anyone reproduce this with a recent version of the iOS app?

I started to look at github, there are a few topics regarding preview images etc. where they discuss a bit the problems of resources generating previews/showing images in high resolution. I just had a very brief look, you might check a bit in more detail if your use case is already handled and gives some answers.

If not or if you think to have a valid point, you can open an issue there.

Hi, there is no issue report in 2026 – and the reported behavior is new (I think, everything was OK till summer). So please tell me what I have to do to make it a valid bug issue (I thought it already is one). Thanks in advance.

You open an issue on github, they should have a template or something to ask some details about your environment. The code lives on github and the developers interact there while the forum is more for users, that help each other in the first place.
