Introducing SmartCook – a modern self-hosted cookbook app for Nextcloud

I have no support/technical question and have seen the support category. (Be aware that direct support questions will be deleted.)

Which general topic do you have

Hi everyone,

I’m building SmartCook, a private cookbook app for Nextcloud. I created it to have one place for recipes, meal planning and shopping lists, while keeping everything inside my own Nextcloud instance.

SmartCook lets you create and organise recipes with structured ingredients, categories and tags. It can also import recipes from different external sources, including public Facebook, Instagram and YouTube links, as well as files, JSON data and images. Imported recipes are shown as editable drafts before being saved.

Other features include meal planning, shopping lists and optional AI assistance for improving imports or refining recipes. The app remains fully usable without AI.

SmartCook is currently available in Italian and English, and is designed for Nextcloud 34.

The project is still evolving, and I’d love to hear your feedback, feature requests or suggestions:

Thanks for taking a look!

Hello @Gabriele_Cozzolino!

Congrats to your app. As I am the maintainer of the cookbook app, we might want to check if we can cooperate. What do you think?

Chris

Thanks for the CookBook App together with the iOS RezepteNextcloud App. There is nothing missing. Working together would be good

Hey! At first glance, this is a great app. However, after trying it out, I found that two features are missing for me:

  • When viewing a recipient, I want to be able to adjust the servings.
  • Secondly, I want to share recipients with my family by default. At the moment the sharing option is very hidden in the last edit screen of the recipient.

I loved to be able to install the app on my phone as a Web-App and it is fleeling smothe on the mobiel device. Thank you for that.

I love to be able to install the app as a web app on my phone, as it feels smoother on the mobile device. Thank you for that.

Could you tell me how the app could be translated into other Languages? May be I can help with that in future for German.

Of course, I would welcome a partnership with the Cookbook app and its developer, although I recognize that this app takes a very different approach. Perhaps there is still a way to work together for you.

Thank you for your work!
