Intermittent issues with Nextcloud Office

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Since the start, I have had intermittent issues with Nextloud Office, on the backend saying it can not connect. Looking around on Google, I see lots of mentions of DNS causing issues, maybe the issue.

I then installed on our Cloudron server, Collabora and use that installation.

Firstly, I then noticed whenever the server restarted that the settings to point to the Cloudron install of Collabora Office revert automatically to nextclouds install of Collabora Office. Tad annoying!

Secondly, I have noticed right after updating containers to Nextcloud 11.0.0 and going to the admin page of Nextcloud office that the server has magically started working again. Now, the last time prior to this time when I found the office was not working, I noticed it started to work again after a container update.

  1. I found this out when I tried to work on a document and it was not working, so I checked the admin page for it, and it had reverted back to the Nextcloud install of Collabora. I set it back to the Cloudron install of Collabora. Then I completed some work.
  2. After I went to check to see if any updates were needed on Nextcloud and apps. We found there was an update to 11.0.0 via AIO, so we did that.
  3. We then went to the admin page of Office to reset our cloudron install of collabora to find the nextcloud install of collabora as we thought it was an intermittent DNS issue, to find it has started to work again.

This seems to be a common occurrence that Nextcloud works with its own install of Collabora for a short time, then stops for no reason and at night, we have noticed, never stops during the day. Then starts to work after a container update!

  1. Has anyone else had this issue?
  2. Could this be something to do with backups at night?
  3. It can’t be a coincidence that every time there is an update for containers via the AIO install that Nextcloud Office works again?

So also, for last few days I have not got any notifications of messages ect on Nextcloud Talk on iPhone but what confused me was some others were working fine and then some other staff had same issue.

I have tried the test notifications on the app and still was not working even though it said the subscription last sync was right then.

Once again since update today magically notifications have started working again. What’s with all these horrible intermittent bugs?

Does anyone else have these sorts of issues?

What do you mean by “Nextcloud’s install of Collabora”?

Are you using AIO’s Collabora instances? Keep in mind there are numerous ways of deploying things.

I did say in my OP that we installed using AIO. And as I said Nextcloud AIO install of Collabora. I then also stated about our Cloudron Install we had to use.

We don’t use the APP install of Collabora as well frankly never worked!

Okay, let me try this from a different direction:

AIO has it’s own way of enabling its bundled Collabora. If you have Collabora enabled within AIO then it’ll take over. If you want to use your own deployment you’d need to, at a minimum, disable AIO’s Collabora.

This is distinct from setting the Administration settings->Nextcloud Office stuff to point at your own Collabora deployment within Nextcloud Server itself. In fact, if you really want to use your own Collabora deployment, until you disable it entirely in AIO, it’ll keep taking over.

That said, I don’t know why you’re having problems with the AIO deployment of it offhand.

The app install of Collabora is for small/test deployments. It also has some other requirements; it’s not intended for use with AIO. Since AIO has a full Collabora deployment in it (which is way better performance-wise), it doesn’t really make sense to use it with AIO anyway.
