How to open pages and numbers files that show as folders on iPad?

I seached for other entries but they usually are quite old or didn’t receive any answer.
I synced a whole folder from MacOS into nextcloud and want to open the pages and numbers files on the ipad.
But no matter which app I’m trying to use to access those files/folders they always show as folders and I’m not able to open them using the relate apps.
Can somebody give me any hint how this is supposed to work?

I found a way to open them but it’ more like a workaround:

  • go to the webinterface of your nextcloud instance
  • navigate to the file
  • it can be viewed directly in the browser

and most likely it’s also possible to download them and open them in the native app this way
