How to manually install beta app

The 3.6 beta version of the nextcloud mail app supposedly has a fix for iCloud mail accounts. I’d like to try to install that manually, but I am not sure how to do so. Right now, I have version 3.5.x of the mail app installed, which I did through the web GUI.

The path to my app folder via the command line is /var/www/nextcloud/apps/ and the path to the mail app via the command line is /var/www/nextcloud/apps/mail/

I’ve used the occ commands before. I can download the tar.gz file of the 3.6 beta from GitHub.

Questions:

  1. Where do I put the tar.gz and do I extract it in the same directory or a different directory.
  2. Do I first need to delete the existing mail app (Version 3.5.x)?

Merci

That is simple with → occ ← :

occ app:update --allow-unstable -- mail

That will update to

App-Name Mail

Much and good luck,

Merci.

What is the command to revert to the main/production channel?

It is an app and not the pod itself. So you are not on a “channel”
Simply update the next time to a stable version (without passing “–allow-unstable”).
You could try to remove and reinstall the (stable) app but I can not guarantee if that will work, because the database will stay the same.
