How to add a Local domain to NextCloud

Hi I really hope this hasn’t been asked as I’ve been looking for an answer for over 3 hours now, but here it goes…

I have Nextcloud running on Freenas. I have it set up for my family, I fear with just a IP address they will be too overwhelmed as they aren’t computer savvy and I want to set up a LOCAL DNS. (ex. Nextcloud.local) as that will be easier to remember than an IP address. I would assume this is possible but for the life of me I cannot figure out how…

Any help would be VERY appreciated!

I would recommend to consult the FreeNAS documentation, because this basic topic has nothing to do with Nextcloud in a first step. Once you’ve successfully installed and configured a local DNS you can adjust the Nextcloud configuration.

This article might help you getting this task done:

I tried the walk through but I am unable to install dnsmasq. I’m not sure if it is because I’m running freenas 11.2 (I believe) and not the legacy 11.1 or if something else is going on…

I think, best would be to ask someone in the FreeNAS support group for help to get this configured.

What do you mean with local domain?

If you use dyndns you don’t need a local dns server.
