How do you break the core functionality of photos and videos? You make hundreds of bullshit features and cant simply keep working what users wanted at its core. Every update is a nightmare. Congradulations on making something so bloated you cant even keep working the original intent of the functionality.
What exactly is broken?
We need more details as well. For many, the updates work well. It can depend on many things, apps, environment, configuration. If you hit the same bug everytime, and nobody is aware of this bug in order to fix it, then it keeps being bad.
There are very few features, that you have to use. So you can decide to keep a more basic (and then perhaps more stable and realiable) setup.
after upgrade. all media is blank. photos show stock photos not my photos. videos shows nothing. photo settings is broken.
You change peoples core settings to view their files in the photo app that is from you. Photo settings is broken. If you want photos to work out of another folder give the user an option to migrate the files. Why would you want to take on changing where files have been working since it was installed?
There is a bug report for this:
And fixes should be in current versions of NC 30 and NC 31. I don’t see any backports to NC 29. Which version are you using?
Nextcloud Hub 8 (29.0.14)
Since 29 is soon to be EOL anyway, I’d suggest updating to 30.0.8, which includes the fix.

Hi @iwonderaboutthings -
It looks like the backport of the fix for this bug got overlooked for v29. It is, however, fixed in current maintenance releases of both v30 and v31.
It’s absence from newer maintenance releases of v29 may be partially my fault. Back when I originally reproduced this bug it either did not exist in v29… or I made a mistake in my testing. So I did not suggest a backport to v29 at the time.

Since you asked: because we’re human, busy, and “what is most important” varies from human to human (and moment to moment). Or, as another project member put it: we’re not superheroes.
Nextcloud is an AGPL project, produced and distributed for free. Many of us are volunteers. You can also pay somebody to assist you if you deem it necessary. And you’re, of course, welcome to volunteer to help the project out where you deem it most important or within your capabilities. Or not. That’s fine too.
Why would you want to take on changing where files have been working since it was installed?
Because it was the single most voted for enhancement idea for the Photos app.
You’re welcome to participate in that prioritization and functionality design process as well. Or don’t. Completely up to you.
Have a great day.
this community is amazing. you’ve replied with solid sound efforts, to a complant post rant that was not worthy of reply. it is a little humbling. none the less i think its owed to say that i updated to 30.0.8 and was able to set the value and it works like it always has. I will be crawling back under the rock I stumbled out from under.
Backported fix has been merged into v29 branch (PR). Should be released as part of v29.0.15.
