Getting help
In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.
Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:
- Official documentation (searchable and regularly updated)
- How to topics and FAQs
- Forum search
(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).
The Basics
- Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):

I would appreciate some advice regarding sharing files with external users on my Nextcloud server.
I have a Nextcloud server where internal users need to share files and folders with external users who will access them through guest accounts.
The requirement is that the internal user’s name and email address should not be visible to the external/guest user.
Currently, the name of the internal user who shared the files is visible in several places, including:
- the details of the shared file/folder,
- the Activity section,
- the email notification sent to the guest when a new file is shared with them.
Is there any configuration, setting, or app that allows administrators to completely hide the identity (name and email address) of the internal user who shared the files from guest users?
Ideally, the guest should only see the shared files/folders and not be able to determine which internal user shared them.
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
