Obviously this is worth a look and may be the opportunity for the more adventurous user to identify issues for your OS environment at your convencience. However, be warned this is [ALPHA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Alpha) ~~[BETA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Beta)~~ phase apparently and funny things can happen.

Please think first, act second only and always have the protection of your data in mind. 😇

### 👨‍💻 Mac OS X / 👩‍💻 macOS trials

Please consider the availability and security of the NC server and the data in your NC cloud storage should matter most. It may be advisable to use a more safer environment and not a productive cloud install if possible.

Please note the availabilty of the [NC Issue Template App](https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/issuetemplate) which could help in producing more detailed reports when issues are found.

However, the NC 17 version is not supported by the NC Issue Template App yet:

Before starting some of the more ambitious trials consider to make more extensive logs available by starting the NC desktop app from the command-line (CLI) such as:

Use the Apple Terminal for CLI input and a special GUI window will open:
`$ /Applications/nextcloud.app/Contents/MacOS/nextcloud --logwindow`

NOTE: Keep the Apple Terminal window open as long as you are using the NC desktop app called by the a.m. command.

Naturally, one may stop i.e. ‘quit’ the installed standard NC desktop app to intentionally start a specific NC desktop **trial app version** instead of the a.m. standard app by help of the a.m. command.

Furthermore, when using the Nextcloud [desktop v2.6.1-rc1 app](https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop/releases/tag/v2.6.1-rc1) beware of some of the ‘funny’ things which happended during my trials:

>
> Expected behaviour
> The NC desktop app after a 'quit' always exits safely to the OS environment.
> Actual behaviour
> The NC desktop app crashes on...

>
> Expected behaviour
> The NC desktop app is stable and it's running stability is independent from any NC server state.
> Actual behaviour
> The NC desktop...

NOTE: When you’re working in Terminal, you don’t have a Trash Can to which deleted files are moved pending ultimate disposal. Delete it, and it’s gone. In general, UN\*X (like most mature operating systems at CLI level and for good reasons) has no Undo function.

Hope this helps.

If you’re on a Mac which can’t go beyond El Capitan (10.11), don’t install this beta version since it requires at least 10.12. By the way, why the need of Mac OS 10.12 minimum for Nextcloud 2.6.1 when Nextcloud 2.6.0 was happy with Mac OS 10.10 ?

Good advice and a better proposal too. 👍

I took the liberty to claim this as new issue [support Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitain or earlier #1556](https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop/issues/1556)

Hey,

thank you all taking the time testing 2.6.1 RC1 with us and providing feedback! 🙂

The new requirement for macOS 10.12 High Sierra is due to upgrades for Qt and OpenSSL, we had to implement.

In medias res

1. One should not forget the **opportunity for testing** over one’s amusing.
2. The devs tagged this [v2.6.1-rc1](https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop/tree/v2.6.1-rc1) certainly.
3. The rest is amusement over [reporting recent test trials](https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop/issues) and could be classed as [banter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversation#Classification).

Will I still be able to connect to my Nextcloud 17.00 server after the end of the year if I stay with version 2.6.0 ? My Mac Pro is too old to support Mac Os 10.12.

There is a mistake on the Nextcloud download page ( [Download and install Nextcloud](https://nextcloud.com/install/#install-clients) ). It indicates the version for 10.10+ but download is for version 10.12+. Perhaps there should be two buttons, one for the legacy (10.10+) and one for the 10.12+ ?
