Groupchat Guests don't see participants, right hand column stays empty

Problem description

We are using Nextclout Talk Groupchat and have enabled a guest link. That all works pretty well. We want this “Chatroom” as text only, no Voice or Video Calls. Configuration was no Problem in this regard.

I can not figure out how to let the guest users see who is participating in this Group Chat. All my “normal” Users see all the Participants and even see the active or passive Status.

I want the guests to be able to see my “normal” Users at least the ones that are currently active. But I can not figure out how to set this up. The right hand Column is alway empty in the guest View.

Nextcloud version (eg, 24.0.1): 28.0.6 Hetzner Storage Box
Talk Server version (eg, 14.0.2): 18.0.11
Custom Signaling server configured: Hetzner Storage Box default
Custom TURN server configured: Hetzner Storage Box default
Custom STUN server configured: Hetzner Storage Box default

In case the web version of Nextcloud Talk is involved:
Operating system (eg, Windows/Ubuntu/…): any
Browser name and version (eg, Chrome v101): any

The issue you are facing:
Right Hand Column Stays empty in Guest View and no configuration can be found.

Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Y/N): Y

Steps to replicate it:

  1. Enable Public Function on Group Chat
  2. Share the public link
  3. In Private Browser open that link
  4. Join the Chat, enter a Display Name
  5. Start Chatting > right hand Column stays empty in guest view

I know there might be some privacy issue. So users should be able to allow public visibilty or block it. In this use case it doesn’t matter so much because any link will be marked so it is clear that this is like a public Chat Room.

This is currently not possible. The only option you have is to use guest accounts with the guests app (GitHub - nextcloud/guests: 🙈 Create guest users which can only see files shared with them), but this might not be what you want.

Yes, you are right. I don’t want Guests to sign up, just to use the Chat Function. That is one step too much for most of them.

The Guest Link is great for that, it asks for Name and that’s it.
Except that guest don’t see who also is in the Same Group Chat.

But thank you anyway for the reply, I did not know about that Guest App at all. It could serve other purpose on other Instances that I manage.
