Group memberships and group administrators

Nextcloud version (eg, 27.1.5): 27.1.5
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 20.04): Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
Apache or nginx version (eg, Apache 2.4.25): Apache 2.4.52
PHP version (eg, 7.4): 8.1.2

The issue you are facing:
If a user is configured as group administrator, they can remove group memberships from people in their groups and they can add new users, but they cannot add already existing users to one of their groups.

Furthermore, it seems as if it is possible to create duplicate users - at least users with the same user name.
In our scenario, we use a company Active Directory to get the user information from. In this Active Directory, there’s a user john.doe. This user is syncronized to Nextcloud and that user can log in. As this user is not yet member of any groups, a group administrator cannot add this user to any of their groups. But it is possible to create a new user “john.doe” (this time a local user) which can become a member of one of the groups.

In this context, it would also be good to be able to add users when administering the group (i. e. on that configuration page). Currently, it seems only be possible to select a user and add them to a group. When working with many users, this can be a quite involving task… Or is there some configuration item to enable that feature?

Best regards,
Tom
