I installed the desktop client on both windows and linux. The settings menu however seems not accessable before it starts syncing after defining the folders. Since I sync my home folder itself (instead of home/nextcloud) have to exclude system files and hidden files, because otherwise the syncingprocess will loop. I solved it by quickly disabling sync after a restart and the manually edited the exclusion list. Woult be more convenient for non tech users if by default hidden files are not saved and exclusions can be edited before the first sync
If you login into desktop client at its first startup, do not configure the sync. After that edit the exclusions and after that configure sync.
