Files appear in search results but cannot be downloaded – any ideas?

Hi all,

I’m running into a strange issue with my Nextcloud instance and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

What’s happening

  • When I use the global search bar (or the “Files” app search) the expected files are listed in the results. Same applies when I use “Latest Files”.

  • The same behaviour occurs when I open the “Latest Files” view – the files show up correctly.

  • As soon as I click on a result to open or download the file, the download fails. In the UI I get a generic “The specified file is not available.” toast.

  • The same files can be downloaded without any problem when I navigate to them directly via the file tree (i.e., not through the search results).

Environment

Item Details
Nextcloud version 32.0.6 (latest stable)

Question

  • Has anyone experienced a similar “download fails from search results” issue?

  • Any debugging steps or config tweaks you’d recommend?

Thanks in advance for any help! I can provide additional log excerpts if needed.

Have you already compared the provided file links? If you select the file in question and click on the 3-dots behind the name, select details, internal file link or right click on the file name in the search result and select copy file link. Both links should be the same.

Thanks, but it looks like the download links are generated dynamically when you click on the item, as I can’t see a static URL.

I cannot confirm it. If you follow my advise the file link should be displayed. Please provide a description how you checked it and provide screenshots.
