File don't save if they have a very long name

Hi,

When I want to save a file from Excel or Word, if they have a very long file name, it won’t let me save it within Nextcloud (last version installed in Windows 10 with virtual files). No error appears, I press Save, but it does nothing.

Are there any limitations with the file names?

Do you mean using the new virtual filesystem in the desktop client on Windows?

Also, could you please share an example of a long file name you’ve tried.

If you work in Windows, the full path including the filename can’t exceed 256 characters.
This has nothing to do with NC, just with folders/files’ names length…

Are you sure it’s the length, not characters used?

I know this is an old post but has anyone found a workaround for the file limitation when using the sync client?

I know windows defaults to a limit of 256 characters but this can be changed with a simple registry entry. Still, the sync client does not allow you to save anything that exceeds 256 characters.
