The installation is on a shared hosting space, so I have no shell access, and I don’t know the exact Linux and MySQL versions.
/home/sites/site34/web/cloud/ocs exists, but it is a directory.

Your php script wants to run longer than 60s but it can’t. Check if you can raise the execution time of your php scripts (via php.ini or customer interface), in case it is a hard limit, it’s more complicated:
So there is a limit and the script needs to do more than it can. You could try to reduce the tasks of the script, e.g. disable apps before the ugprade so it only upgrade the core. Activate the apps afterwards, they will then be upgraded individually. However, if you are on a growing setup, you might come to a point where this isn’t possible any more.

Other idea: You could migrate the setup to a local computer, run the upgrade and migrate back. Most changes concern the database, so perhaps you don’t have to move all data.

Sadly I’m not able to raise the execution time. Disabling apps seems to be the best option, but the problem is, that I cannot access the admin interface to do so. Can I do that directly in the database?

Probably, but I can’t tell you exactly where. You can also delete the app from the app-folder manually.

I found the proper place (I think) to disable the apps (nc_appconfig), and disabled almost all the apps. Now I get another error:

If you disable some core apps, this can create errors. I’d disable apps one by one. I don’t know enough to guess what could be the issue. I’d only disable apps that are additional and were not enabled by default, where you are sure they are not very deep in the system (disable: calendar, bookmarks etc, rather not: sharing stuff, …).

Sorry, I haven’t been able to look at this before now.

Now there are no errors in the the server log, but a worrying one in nextcloud.log: "Exception":"Error","Message":"Class 'OCP\\Config' not found". And this is repeated many times.

I have installation and data separated, so I could manually upload a new installation. I’m not that comfortable down/uploading the database :frowning:
