Enabling Encryption breaks installation

Greetings all.

Wondering if there is a way to disable encryption via command line or somesuch. I enabled the default encryption app in the admin panel, set a recovery key, and logged out. When logging back in, I get on the landing page (no login prompt, just the following wall of text):

"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator if this error reappears multiple times, please include the technical details below in your report.

More details can be found in the server log."

I’ve looked in the following:

  • Apache error log
  • Apache Access log
  • index.php
What other log files might I look in, and any clues what to look for? Is there any way to recover? A way to disable encryption via command line or config file?

This is a new install, no files yet.

  • Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial with latest LAMP package (Google Cloud instance)
  • Nextcloud 12.0.5

Thank you in advance and apologies for any noob errors in posting.
