Drag & Drop creates 256-256-crop.png instead of moving file (single user affected)

Hello community,

I have the following problem:
When I try to move a file to another folder using drag and drop, the file remains in the original folder, and a file named 256-256-crop.png is created in the target folder instead.
However, if I use the context menu, both copying and moving work perfectly.

This issue only affects one specific user. I have already tried the following steps:

  • Cleared the browser cache
  • Cleared the Nextcloud cache
  • Disabled preview image generation
  • Checked and reassigned permissions on the directories (to www-data)
  • Deactivated and removed all add-ons
  • Created a new user, who does not have this problem in the same environment
  • Restored a backup, but the issue persists
  • Tested with different browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
  • Tried from a completely different computer and tablet — same problem every time

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

It seems that you drag’n’drop the preview image instead of the file itself.

There is already a Github issue about this:
