Hi

Is there a way to disable the “click to download” behavior ?

Users end up downloaded tons of files by mistake. The right click download is more than enough.

Which position do you mean? Can you post a screenshot? With public links you can hide the download. Do you mean this? What is wrong with downloading files? Describe in more detail what your goal is.

This is about the default behavior when you click a file on the browser interface. Typically like in the picture below where a single click on the file will trigger download.

With public links you can hide the download. Do you mean this?

I dont think this is linked with sharing/public links.

What is wrong with downloading files? Describe in more detail what your goal is.

The goal is to remove the click-to-download behavior to reduce the number of files downloaded by mistake.

I think @ATX wants a similar behavior like in e.g. Google Drive, where a single click does not trigger any actions, but only selects the file, and then a double click or the right mouse button must be used to open the file or perform other actions.

@ATX I am not aware of any configuration option for this, or that something like this is even implemented. You can check the GitHub issues and open a feature request. But since we are talking about fundamental design choices here, I wouldn’t expect that this will be implemented anytime soon…

Because there is no browser viewer or Nextcloud app for Word you get a download to open on the client.

With Collabora Online / Nextcloud Office or ONLYOFFICE it would be opened in the app.

Yes I know how it works in Nextcloud, and I don’t mind it personally. But other services, like for example Google Drive, don’t behave like that. They behave more like a desktop file manager:

  • Single click → select a file
  • Double click → standard action will be executed (open the file or download it if it can’t be opened)
  • Right click → further actions / context menu (same as Nextcloud)
