While I understand that AppImage is nice for Linux users, should we just forget about arm64 support for desktop clients? Some unambiguous statement of direction to the community would be helpful. Apologies if any announcement exists. Thanks.
However, there are arm64 packages for nextcloud-desktop in the official repositories of both Debian and Ubuntu, so it should be as simple as typing apt install nextcloud-desktop to get at least a version of the desktop client on either of those distributions.
The problem with this, is that the packages in Debian stable and Ubuntu LTS are usually already somewhat out of date when a new version of these distributions is released, and they are never updated during the lifecycle of the distribution, so you might want to try one of the following unofficial sources instead:
Appreciate the detailed response. As one of the original Nextcloud in a Box users (where I learned how to support a farm of 55 RPi boxes), your answer helps me to understand the path of version changes. I’m familiar with the PPA but not the Flatpak which I try out thanks to you.
I agree with your observations about LTS. Thanks again.
