Create a share link in a public share

Which general topic do you have

Hello,

I recently migrated from OwnCloud to Nextcloud and noticed a difference in sharing functionality.
In Owncloud it was possible to create a public share link with “full control”, allowing anyone with the link to edit, create folders/files and even generate new public share links for those folders/files.

I seem to be missing this feature in Nextcloud. Is there an equivalant option available, or am I overlooking something?

Thanks in advance.

There is the feature to create public share links - but your text does not fully match your title. Do you want to link public shares inside of other shared folders at some totally different location in the folder tree?

To create folder links inside of folders, I do not know of such a solution - see also Links to other folders possible?

If you “only” need public share links with or without full control, you can go to details > Sharing > External Shares > Create public link.

You can also enable “Allow users to set custom share link tokens” under Administration > Sharing which then means, people can choose their own sharing id rather than some random id so one could better remember.

It’s a bit complex to explain, but I try to clarify:
When I share a public link with “full control” permissions, you can edit folders and files, and even create public links for this files or folders within the shared link. This functionality is available in OwnCloud.
If I understood you correctly, this is not possible in Nextcloud.

Thank you very much for confirming.

OK, I did test with the current version of Nextcloud: Indeed there is no permission I can give along with public share that allows resharing. And honestly I am not sure if I would like such a feature. And there are questions then: Who would be the owner of that shared link who could delete that share created by a person who created that link while not being a real user of the Nextcloud instance? How is this handled in owncloud?

I think we have a somewhat unusual use case here.
We have an admin user who creates various project folders. A share link is created for each project folder and distributed to the project team.
The project team also includes some external users who do not have their own Nextcloud account.
With Owncloud, the team could create folders independently and then make them available only to a specific group of people (e.g. a password protected share link) without always needing the admin. It is kinda what we expect if it is labeled as “Full Access” (in Owncloud).
With a normal “editable” share link, I stick with you this feature would not be good in general.
It was simply a nice feature of Owncloud that we miss in Nextcloud

OK, I understand the requirement, but an external user should never be able to add additional share links - when somebody leaves the project how could you avoid ex-external-coworkers still accessing files. I see a huge risk of data leaking here. It is already a risk if you share folders that people can send the link to more external users and finally half the world could have access to the files. But at least, if the team is changed/reduced etc - you could delete the share links and create new ones for the new team. In your owncloud case you need to move all the data to different folders if you want to make sure, that all the old links do not work any more. Wuaahhhh. :scream:

Why must do all the sharing the admin? - Users with Nextcloud account could create the share links, but at least they know to whom they sent what share links.
