Connection loss

Nextcloud version (eg, 20.0.5): 24.0.6
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 20.04): webhosting, not known

The issue:

2 days after the update from 24.0.5 to 24.0.6 there are nonstop dis- and reconnects on idling clients and the website isn’t reachable, with a down time of few minutes approx every 10 minutes. A phone call with the support showed that the memory usage was too big and processes stopped/restarted. This never happend with 24.0.5 and I even set php memory limit from 512 to minimum 128, which didn’t help. Any idea what happens here? As the requests don’t arrive at nextcloud I don’t have anything in the logs.

What is the system’s max/used memory?

Hopefully not from 512 to 128 but from 128 to 512.
Please post your config. Maybe you can also post the name of your hoster.

Webhosting is not the best way to host Nextcloud.
Maybe you can better use a Managed Nextcloud with optimized software and hardware.

total 70GB free 38GB. but the webhosting account is bound to 1GB ram.

as i wrote the webhosting support mentioned usage of too much ram, so I set it to 128mb (minimum requirement as mentioned in NC docs) to see if that helps, which didnt so it’s back to 512mb.

Could it help to use php8? what’s the best php version to use?

Nextcloud 25 is the latest official version with further performance improvements. Maybe a possibility.

I think 1 GB ram is not the problem, 512 MB ram is also ok. How many users do you have? How much money do you pay? You can get good Managed Nextcloud for 5 euro a month with more performance.

1GB ram is the limit the hoster gives, 512mb is the php memory limit atm. just one user but with parallel mobile, desktop and sometimes web client.
