It seems the Android app is a complete disaster. Renaming files copies them instead, and when I point apps at Nextcloud directories, there are sometimes files that get completely stuck. I might edit them via the Nextcloud Android client, they even get synced properly, but when accessed via app X, I still get the old version. This even happens when I remove and re-add the file with the same name in the Nextcloud app; after removal it also is not visible to app X anymore, but after re-adding, it’s the old version again.
Definitely not the app X’s fault; I completely wiped the data and re-set-up the app with no effect. I also cleared the Nextcloud app’s cache with no effect.
Completely wiping the Nexcloud app is the only thing that helps.
When you had all the problems, did you try to reach out with a bit more details and see if people can help you? If so basic things like renaming files is broken, that should be even covered by automated testing…
I just thought, it sounds a bit strange that it is a general issue, meaning that perhaps not all the android users with Nextcloud have this problem. In such a case, what is different to them?
What is missing: version numbers.
sometimes, some apps. I’d always give a specific example with the most common app where you had the problem, that others can easily verify and fix the bug.
And if we want to point out the app, it’s good to verify that you do not already have the problem on the server. Do similar things happen with the web-interface, desktop client, if you can other mobile clients.
And top of the top would be logfiles. On the phone itself, it seems a bit complicated (GitHub - nextcloud/android: 📱 Nextcloud Android app), that I’d just do on request if others cannot replicated the issue easily and the developers ask for the logs. The server log (if you are the server admin with access) might reveal some details (why something failed …).
