Clarification on files to download (tar.bz2 or .zip archive)

Hello,

I’m trying to install Nextcloud on my PC (Ubuntu 20.04).

I’m at the step of :

Download Nextcloud Server > Download > Archive file for server owners and download either the tar.bz2 or .zip archive.

  1. Exactly how many files are there?
  2. Which ones exactly?
  3. Where exactly can you get them?

Isn’t there any other way to make this installation a successful one?

Thank you in advance.

I would highly recommend upgrading to 22.04 first, as 20.04 is already slightly out of date and no longer provides the required package versions without the integration of ppa’s.

If you are referring to a guide here, it would be helpful to mention which guide you have in front of you.
In general, I would think that I don’t need to explain the difference between zip and tar.bz2 archives, right?

There are a variety of installation options. Here is the relevant chapter in the official manual, which should provide sufficient answers to all off your questions:

I hope this helps,
much luck!

Are you talking about the official docs or about some guide you found on the internet…?

Many. All versions that have ever been released.

If you’re installing new you can use the latest.zip or latest.tar.bz2
