Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

Summary of the issues you are facing:

I was asked to replace the Nextcloud client. The one package by fedora is (too) old: 3.17 and the flatpak is 4.0.6. What would be the best way to do this without having to download all files?

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Fedora 43 has a package for nextcloud client 3.17, this is relatively old
  2. Remove the old client and install Nextcloud Desktop sync with flatpak
  3. The exiting connection do not surive this change

Creating new connections could not use the existing folders.

Well why it is too old? Debian and Ubuntu are using in deb’s a Client based 3.16 and that works too

You may just use the fedora package manager to deinstall the fedora version and then replace it with another Version of your choice. But i won’t use flatpak but the Nextcloud-4.0.7-x86_64.AppImage instead. You will find it here.

You won’t need to download any files. Any user owns a file named nextcloud.cfg what ist unsually stored in the folder /home/<username>/.config/Nextcloud/. This will not be touched whlile installing another type of client. But be safe and backup this file beforhand.

Every Client use it, no matter that of your Linux repository or Appimage or flatpack or snap.

btw: @adelaar’s hint should work pretty good. I’ve done that myself recently. flawless
