Cant upload/create files in top level directory via windows app

Nextcloud version : Desktop App 2.3.3 build 1
Operating system and version : Ubuntu 16.04
Apache or nginx version Apache/2.4.18 (Ubuntu)
PHP version : 7.0

The issue you are facing:

I am using the nextcloud app to connect to a Filerun server. The server seems to run fine with no permission problems (that I understand anyway)
on the web appplication or via webdav I am able to upload files to the root directory for my user. however I can not upload files or directories via the nextcloud desktop application. I get the following error:

15/08/2018 7:54:33 PM, @Home/italian, Nextcloud,Not allowed because you don't have permission to add subfolders to that folder

I can however upload/sync files to any second level directory.

This happens on multiple PC.

I have tried checking “Sync hidden files” with no sucesss.

I know it might be something to do wth how the app talks to the server. However I dont know where to start looking.

Any help is appreciated.

Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? : No, but I never really resolved it.

Steps to replicate it:

  1. connect app to filerun instance.
  2. create file or directory in @home
  3. wait for app to detect the change and try to uplaod.
  4. get error message.
