Cant start nextcloud client from ubuntu launcher

Whenever I try to launch (open) the client on ubuntu by clicking on the nextcloud icon in the notification panel, the whole system hangs, and after 2-3 minutes, I eventually have a message stating cinnamon has crashed. This does not happen with other app that I launch from the notification area, and it happened with ubuntu 17.04 as well.
The icon otherwise is fine, alternating between green & blue depending on changed files.

Client; Ubuntu 18.04
Client Nextcloud: 2.3.3-20180415.190957~bionic1
Cinnamon: 3.6.7-8ubuntu1

Server Nextcloud version 13.0.1

Can you start the client from your terminal and activate logging:

nextcloud --logfile <filename>
