Cannot create regular file: Read-only file system

So I am now unable to create, edit or modify any files under my profile via the web gui or ssh. I get the following error:

cannot create regular file: Read-only file system

All my data is stored on a external USB drive and has been working for awhile now. After looking at my mount points I do see that my USB has been mounted in “ro” read-only so I unmounted then mounted with rw, it started working for a little bit but now the drive is back to read-only.

every time I reboot the system the drive gets mounted in ro?

Is this because my usb drive is faulty? Time to get a new one??

This seems to be a normal OS related question and not a Nextcloud specific one. Therefore I would point you to aunt Gs answers on the web:
