If a Nextcloud instance contains a lot of tagged files and folders and somebody wants to browse through you can start at the “Tags” filter in the files-browser. If you click on “Tags” you see a list of folders named like the tags used by the Nextcloud instance. The folders contain the files and folders which are marked with the corresponding tag. And that’s it.

What if these folders contain more folders named like the tags used for files and folders which are tagged with more than one tag followed by the list of files and folders which are already listed in the actual version of Nextcloud? (The tag already selected by entering a folder ist not listed again.)

With this feature you see list of tags on top of the window where you normally see a list of directories like this: `Tags > tag1 > tag2` Below you see a list of of all tags used with files and folders in addition to the tags in the “directory list” and if you scroll down there is the list of files and folders which match at last all the tags from the “directory list” containing the already selected tag names.

There is one more point we may think about. In the list of folders with tag names are now all tags known to the Nextcloud instance regardless if you have access to files and folders with these tags or not. It would be nice if you can select if you want to see the tag names or only those related to files and folders accessible for you. This could be done add a selector underneath the “Tags” filter like it is done with the “Favorites” or “Shares” filter. The selectors may be named “all tags” and “used tags” .

New features are discussed preferably on github via the bug tracker. Regarding the tags, there are already a few feature requests:

>
> It would be really useful to have the possibility to search not only for tag A A…ND tag B but also for tag A AND NOT tag B, or tag A OR tag B
>
> I would value especially tag A AND NOT tag B.
> Some use cases:
>
> \- All the documents about client X and not about contracts
> \- All the photos about family and not about private

> I was thinking that even a"simple" change in the interface would be a big improvement.

> My hypothesis of how to make it work would be:
>
> \- automatic focus on "Select tags to filter by" as now
> \- start to search when the first tag in "... filter by" field is selected
> \- allow to fill "... to exclude" even if "... filter by" is empty, yet do NOT start to search if "... filter by" is empty

>
> Another approach could be to have a setting for the admin to customize the file type filters. The admin would be able to add, remove, sort file type options for the filter for all of his users.
> Although this would take the customization from the user, if the setting is only available for the admin and not the user.

And probably a few more. They partly are open for quite some time, if you feel you have some point that is missing in the others, you can open a new one, or add something to the others if you think it matches the case.

Thanks a lot for this advice. I opened an enhancement issue.
