Broken installation after update from PHP 7.2.24 to 7.4.10 on Centos 3.10.0-1127.19.1.el7.x86_64

Running Centos 3.10.0-1127.19.1.el7.x86_64. Did the Nexcloud update from 18 to 19 without issues. Then it mentions I need to update to PHP 7.3 minimum to get all security features.

So I run:
rpm -Uvh https://rpms.remirepo.net/enterprise/remi-release-7.rpm

yum-config-manager --enable remi-php74

yum install httpd php php-dom php-mbstring php-gd php-pdo php-json php-xml php-zip php-curl php-pear php-intl php-bcmath php-gmp setroubleshoot-server bzip2 php-pecl-imagick

After install I get a bunch of errors from PHP…

Ok I managed to discover that if I comment out the following lines in config.php it seems to work.

I reinstalled and updated redis but it does not solve my issue? Any ideas? THX!

I think it has nothing to do with Nextcloud. Default CentOS repos got their own PHP versions. You also installed 7.2 version from Remi repo (but i do not know what method You have used for that earlier).
You also didn’t sat what PHP acess method Your httpd is using (mod_php, fcgi, php-fpm ?).
If i was on Your place i would remove every PHP package from OS, and install newest 7.4.10 as default one. Then in the future try to use “Multiple versions” feature of Remi PHP versions, so they will be installed in separate directories, and got own names like php74 (so You will just add php785 for example, and make httpd use it instead of php74).

Hi,

I removed and reinstalled 7.3 via remi repo. But the problem still persists. When I remove PHP i can get to the welcome test 123 page from apache. When I install PHP I get an error. I got the error logs from apache below. Could one of these errors be causing this?

After removing PHP was there any php left (php -v from command line worked or not?)
Do You use php-fpm, fcgi or mod_php?
What show error.log of Apache?

No I removed all packages, (php -v didn’t work)

No idea… where would I check this? I used the command below to enable the connection:

Ok, from phpinfo we know that You use mod_php (apache module for parsing php files, itis little bit less secure, but should be fastest method).
It looks You just didn’t install PHP module used for connecting with MySQL/MariaDB server.
This is list of PHP module to install so it should work (i never used httpd, just nginx but it’s all about PHP):

yum install -y php php-mysql php-pecl-zip php-bcmath php-xml php-mbstring php-gd php-intl php-process php-imap php-gmp php-pecl-mcrypt php-smbclient php-imagick php-pdo php-recode php-xmlrpc php-pecl-lzf php-zstd php-geos php-opcache

Also in /etc/php.ini there is quiet low upload limit for files (upload_max_filesize). Change it into something better (CD is 700MB, DVD 4,7GB for example).

I would also changed max_execution_time into 120 (from default 30), and memory_limit to 1024 if You got enough RAM.

To disable SELinux do this command and reboot:

sed --in-place=.bak ‘s/^SELINUX=enforcing/SELINUX=permissive/g’ /etc/selinux/config

Thank you very much, that missing module seemed to be the issue! I went down the rabbithole of upgrading from centos7 to centos8 and things got quite messy… it appears you can’t upgrade, only doing a fresh install. This is for another day…
