Any way to change the folder path without resyncing/

Hi

I have my sync files on an external drive, and I want to move to an internal drive. I am wondering if there is a setting/txt file change etc that I can do to sync modify so that I don’t need to resync the whole thing because I have many GBs of data that is already synced. I just want to migrate to a new path on the same Windows system.

thanks

These drives, are they connected to your Nexctloud server or to your local computer? Which (examples of) file paths are involved?

Hi

Naturally they are connected to my NC server. I have already a working NC sync setup between my local desktop and my server. I just bought a new SSD and I want to migrate the current sync folders on my local desktop to the new local SSD drive.

This has nothing to do with the server. I just want to see if I can migrate all those GBs (from one local USB drive to another local SSD drive) without resyncing given I already have the perfect copy on the system where the Windows 11 NC client is installed and working.

Old path
D:\SYNC\NEXTCLOUD

New Path (one of these)
E:\SYNC\NEXTCLOUD
E:\NEXTCLOUD

To your desktop, you mean?

I’m not so familiar with Windows. Would it not be easiest to:

  • Turn off sync for a while
  • Connect the new drive as D:\
  • Connect the old drive as anything else
  • Copy files from the old drive to the new drive at d:\sync\nextcloud?

Thanks but that option doesn’t exist in 3.14.1 Windows

The doc screenshot is outdated, but it’s still there. The account list is in the upper left. Click your account then the 3-dot menu. Same basic structure.

I tried it but I didn’t see the keep local data option.

The Keep local data option will only appear once you select a Local Folder that has the previous (existing) data in it. You can do a quick test by re-selecting the same Local Folder (but not going through with it).

Once you have that part working, you can move your data around and come back and do it for real.
