I was expecting to see something regarding mobile app growth with the annual conference but did not catch anything. Did I miss something? I’m just thinking that there is not much development going on to maintain a cohesive experience with mobile devices and Nextcloud. There is a portion of users today that will only ever experience Nextcloud services through a mobile device. I know for a fact that a full fledged Tables app would make data reporting from remote users possible and very efficient. So I’m just trying to be certain I didn’t miss some announcements as I think it is just as important for privacy and security to be available all the way to the mobile user. A full suite of Nextcloud core apps would be ideal to provide the best privacy.
For Android there is the Android app Nextcloud Tables in “Early beta” “This app is currently under heavy development. It is not yet able to view or manage data in a production environment. Data loss may be possible. Use at your own risc!”. Maybe you can also contact the programmer for more testing.
I haven’t noticed anything else about mobile apps. However, the Nextcloud clients should support synchronisation in both directions.
Regarding Tables App: Yes, I have been in contact with the developer and even proposed funding for development. However, they stated that the issue was not funding and time, but issues with the way the app is designed that causes some issues with full interaction. I’m not sure if they are working with Nextcloud developers to resolve the concerns or not. It seems like a stalled project.
Regarding other app solutions, I would either like to see the core Nextcloud app developed to encompass multiple groupware functions other than just Files, or apps developed in-house to support Calendar and Email to ensure the privacy while simplifying the user’s login or connection experience. It is a lot to ask end users to setup their own Davx5 or other special settings to get their apps connected. It would be nice if Nextcloud was the simple mediator for authentication.
We do use the third party Deck app and that is proving well developed, supported, and worth the money. So community development is still also encouraged. Just hoping it would advance quicker than it has to keep up with the Hub development.
