### Summary of the issue you are facing:

Hello everybody,

my sister and a colleague of her are starting a two-person business and I recommended and configured a Nextcloud for collaboration on TrueNAS (with hourly snapshots as Backup replicated to an second offsite NAS).

Yesterday was the first day, that she wanted to move all her projects (around 10GB) into the Team folder “projects\_activ” via the Windows-Explorer integration, so that the stuff finally get’s backuped. And directly after pasting it, everything simply vanished. In advance: There is an about two week old backup of her old Laptop, but the work of the last two weeks was gone.

I never heard of something similar and my best guess was, that it got moved somewhere else on her PC, but I wasn’t able find anything (manually + via Explorer search + indirectly by the size in treesize). I also tried to recover the files with Recuva, but could find anything with it (I made some good experiences serveral years ago with it). So we decided to use the “Previous version” of the source folder and got all but the last seven days.

What’s still strange is, that the destination Nextcloud team folder shows a size of ~5GB (size AND size on disk) in Windows, but there isn’t anything in it (nothing invisible either). Can some explain to me, what this is referencing (I’m no Windows expert, i turned my back to it several years ago)? Is there still something anywhere stored?

First I thought, that it can’t be related to Nextcloud but must be an issue of Windows, but I’m not so sure anymore because of some bug-reports, e.g.

So I looked for the files directly on the NAS, but there wasn’t anywhere a directory with enough data in it.

Unfortunately I don’t have the output anymore in my bash history, but I executed a `occ files:scan --all` and it “updated” about 1000 files, which is way more, than where actually in Nextcloud. Can this be an idicator, that Nexcloud knows (had known) about the files?

Finally this particular Team folder is somehow locked or broken now. My sister isn’t able to upload anything into it I’m also not able to, neighter via the Android app nor via the browser. Nothing happens, when I hit the ±button in the app to upload something. The same works fine for a different Team folder. In the browser there is no “+ New” button, drag+drop also dosn’t work.  
“projects\_active” is the “locked” folder, “anderer\_team\_folder” works. Both got created before the inital problem with the vanished files:

### Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

I’m not really able to replicate the issue, but what my sister did:

1. Cut several files/folders with Ctrl+x and paste it with Ctrl+v into the a Team folder in the Nexcloud directory in the Windows Explorer.

2. Got an error because of a still open Excel-File

3. All moved files vanished “instantly”

### Log entries

#### Nextcloud

I think those entries in nextcloud.log are caused from a client (iPhone app?!) which was connected to an earlier test-installation of nextcloud on the same host, because in this earlier test-installation there was an shared folder (not Team folder) “Projekte\_aktiv” (the new Team folder is called “projects\_active” instead). So I guess, it’s not directly related to the issue. But maybe indirectly?!
