AIO Master Container Updates - possible to pre-download?

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • no idea - just updating master container to 10.7 now
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • Ubuntu 24.04 server
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • AIO
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • NO

Summary of the issue you are facing:

This isn’t a huge problem by any means, I’m actually really happy with AIO
Whenever I do an update, I obvs have to take the service offline, so the faster the update the better, but the updates take ages.

Looking at the proxmox status panel of the VM I’m running this on, I can see ‘netin’ maxing out at my internet connection speed whilst it’s “updating”.

So it appears as though it doesn’t download the new container files until after I start the update. I think the installation of the containers itself is really quite fast, but I’m getting excessive downtime during updates because it doesn’t pre-download.

I have a really slow rural internet connection here (12Mbps if I’m lucky).

Is there any way of getting AIO to download the update files before kicking off the update process and thus saving excess downtime?

I understand it may be possible to automate the whole update process at an out-of-hours schedule but I don’t use nextcloud’s built in backups, I use VM snapshots before installations instead as it’s easier.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. update mastercontainer on a slow internet connection
